State-of-the-art facilities
As we operate the Animal Hotel you can be sure that KLM Cargo will retain complete control over your valuable shipment from the moment you entrust the horses to us until the airport of destination.

The Animal Hotel meets the most recent EU guidelines on the import and export of horses, and offers comfortable and secure accommodations for horses awaiting transit or import clearance. It is staffed around the clock by qualified attendants, all trained at School of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University. If required, our Animal Attendants can work alongside the horses' own grooms, who may accompany their horses.

Specially designed equipment
Before setting foot inside the aircraft, the horses are loaded into specially designed horse stalls. KLM Cargo developed, in consultation with American and Dutch veterinary experts fully enclosed self-contained units. To maximize the safety of your horses, separate ramps at front and rear of the stall are used for loading and unloading, with the horses always facing the front of the aircraft during flight. Non-slip floors and interiors without rough or sharp edges are also standard features.

By means of partitions, the stalls can be adapted to carry one or several horses, depending on their size, age, condition and the owners' requirements. Access to the horse stalls is possible in-flight, and Animal Attendants are always close to the horses during take-off and landing. Temperature, pressure and ventilation on board are strictly regulated.

Our Animal Attendants always put the welfare of each animal first, carefully monitoring conditions and watching closely for tell-tale signs in the horse's behavior. They are backed up by a team of external veterinarians and equine specialists who are on call at all times. KLM Cargo's Animal Attendants are trained in flight safety and animal welfare.
